Chateau Cailloux de By 2020, Medoc x3
This great Medoc property is now run by two of the late Marc Pagès’s grandsons, Frédéric Le Clerc (ex Ecole Polytechnique) and Benjamin Richer de Forges. The Château Cailloux de By is their entry level wine and is a blend of 50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon from 35 year old vines.
Cassis, black cherry, balanced with cedar wood and subtle oak spice. Soft, dense and round on the palate with good freshness. Pound for pound, one of the best everyday Bordeaux’s about in our humble opinions.
Bruno Sorg, Pinot Noir 2022, Alsace x3
This is the source of some of the finest, richest and most concentrated wines in Alsace. Superb Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris and perhaps the finest Muscat in Alsace, but also home to great Riesling. Having said all that, here we have a Pinot Noir. Something that Alsace is becoming better known for and offering superb value in comparison to some Pinot from Burgundy.
A complex Pinot, that has good fruit density, freshness along with a savoury dimension. A Burgundy-esque Pinot that offers fantastic value.
